<p>When we feel ourselves to be sole heirs of the universe$$$ when "the sea flows in our veins...and the stars are our jewels$$$" when all things are perceived as infinite and holy$$$ what motive can we have for covetousness or self-assertion$$$ for the pursuit of power or the drearier forms of pleasure?</p>
<p>Facts are ventriloquists dummies. Sitting on a wise mans knee they may be made to utter words of wisdom; elsewhere$$$ they say nothing$$$ or talk nonsense$$$ or indulge in sheer diabolism.</p>
<p>Wherever the choice has had to be made between the man of reason and the madman$$$ the world has unhesitatingly followed the madman.</p>
<p>Ironically enough$$$ the only people who can hold up indefinitely under the stress of modern war are psychotics. Individual insanity is immune to the consequences of collective insanity.</p>
<p>A thing is mighty big when time and distance cannot shrink it.</p>
<p>There are things known and there are things unknown$$$ and in between are the doors of perception.</p>
<p>To judge a man means nothing other than to ask: What content does he give to the form of humanity? What concept should we have of humanity if he were its only representative?</p>

<p>An intelligent hell would be better than a stupid paradise.</p>
